Using the MCMI-IV in Therapeutic Assessment

Presenter: Dr. Seth Grossman, Psy.D.
Date: February 20, 2025

The MCMI-IV and other Millon instruments are most often used as aides to incremental validity, and less often for therapeutic input. Therapeutic Assessment (TA) is a semi-structured collaborative assessment process using psychological tests as an integral part of treatment and has been shown to effect positive change. As most users of the Millon inventories are only vaguely aware of the theory behind the instruments, few may see the potential for the instruments and their guiding theory to realize their therapeutic potential. This webinar will provide participants with a rudimentary knowledge of Millon’s Evolutionary Theory, and demonstrate how to use the test data, as contextualized with the theory, toward building effective collaborative dialogue and connection vital to the therapeutic assessment process.

"I didn't think I could talk about that." Using the MACI-II and M-PACI to build alliance and therapeutic dialogue in a Collaborative/Therapeutic Assessment framework

Presenter: Dr. Seth Grossman, Psy.D.
Date: January 19, 2025

Continuing the exploration of Millon Evolutionary Theory and therapeutic/CTA applications, this webinar focuses on the adolescent and pre-adolescent applications involving the MACI-II and the M- PACI. It also explores relevant developmental/attachment considerations that parallel the core theory. As with the preceding MCMI-IV webinar, this presentation will explore the translation of theoretical principles to relatable, collaborative language that may help to engage adolescents in building curiosity, empowering their self-reflection, and investing in the overall CTA process. Through a review of the core elements of the theory and the instruments’ measures, the webinar seeks to illuminate means of drawing out and understanding adolescent dilemmas and challenges in a developmentally-attuned manner.
